I am pleased to bring you a project designed by Spellbinders™ Design Team Coordinator Cathy Chlebana.  Cathy and I are working as the dynamic duo for you today!

Cathy altered this box, isn’t it gorgeous!!

Trinket Box by Cathy Chlebana

Supply List for Trinket Box

Spellbinders™ – Wizard™ Die Cutting and Embossing System, S4-269 Lotus Pendant Die Templates, S4-240 Lotus Borderabilities® Petite Die Templates, F-005 Gold Premium Craft Foil

Tattered Angels – Glimmer Mists, 21052 Iridescent Gold and 21132 Bronze
SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES™ by 3L – 3D Foam Squares, Black
Ranger – Adirondak Acrylic Paint Dabber, Pitch Black
Pine Cone Press – Mega Roll Double-Sided Red Liner Tape
Beacon Adhesives – 3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue
Ten Seconds Studio – Herringbone Pattern Wheel
Miscellaneous – 4″ square paper mache box

To create your own box, start by painting the paper mache box with the Adirondak Acrylic Paint Dabber using a dabbing motion to give the finished box texture. When completely dry, lightly spray the box with both the gold and bronze Glimmer Mists and set aside to dry.

Using a 4½” square of Gold Premium Craft Foil, emboss (do not cut) the Pendant from the S4-269 Lotus Pendants die template set. Carefully cut around the outside of the embossed pendant with scissors. Create a decorative edge around the pendant using the herringbone pattern wheel. (In my photo, I embossed with the wheel before hand cutting)

Again using a 4½” square of Gold Premium Craft Foil and the Pendant from S4-269 Lotus Pendants, cut/emboss the die template.  Also cut/emboss the Center from the same set.

Distress or age the gold die cuts using the Adirondak Acrylic Paint Dabber, applying it to the entire die cut shape. Let dry for a short time and remove some of the paint with a soft cloth until the look you desire is achieved.

Measure the distance around the outside of the painted box and the height of the bottom of the box. Cut a strip of the Gold Premium Craft Foil one half inch longer than the distance around the box and one inch taller than the height of the box.

Using removable tape, attach the #1 Border die template from S4-240 Lotus Borderabilities® Petite to the bottom left hand edge of the strip of gold foil. The gold side of the foil should be facing the die template. Cut this die template, but do not emboss.

Carefully move the die template along the bottom of the foil, matching edges to the previous cut and make another cut. Repeat this process until you have cut the border along the entire length of the foil strip.

Using the same procedure, go back and emboss each of the cuts along the strip, being careful not to damage the strip. Place the Tan Embossing Pad over the part of the die cut that you want to emboss.  If you cover the previously embossed area with the pad, it will flatten out.  If that happens, just emboss it in the die template again. Repeat the embossing until entire strip is done.

When finished cutting and embossing use the black acrylic paint to age this strip as you did the pendant die cuts.

For the accent pieces on the corners of the top of the box cut/emboss and distress #2 border from S4-240 Lotus Borderabilities™ Petite. Pop out the small pieces from the border and use these as corner accents.

To assemble, attach the embossed Pendant to the top of the box and the accents to the top corners using the 3-in-1 Craft adhesive. Layer the die cut  Pendant pieces over the embossed piece on the box top using 3D Foam Squares.

Run a strip of red liner tape along the top edge of the box bottom. Align the bottom edge of the border strip with the bottom edge of the box and carefully attach around the outside of the box. When you reach the area of the seam, trim the foil border strip with a craft knife and butt the edges together to create a seamless look.

You will now have excess foil at the top of the box. Make a cut at each corner from the edge of the foil to the top of the box. Fold the foil on each of the four sides into the box and hold in place with a small amount of 3-in-1 Craft Glue.
