My Steampunk Trunk

I’m sharing a few pictures of the Steampunk Trunk I made for the SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L™ Blog.   You can go here to see the tutorial

I combined Graphic 45 Steampunk Debutante paper with lots of trinkets and treasures from my collection. I really love mixed media, and altering these little boxes is super easy!  Look out, I have a ton of them!

Halloween Canvas Fun

The weather is a-changing!  It was a bit chilly at 6:30am when Cindy wanted out.  I’m not quite ready for that, but it is nice to have the windows and front door open.

I’ve got some Halloween canvas goodness to share, both tutorials are posted over at the Spellbinders Blog.  This one is A Graveyard Scene:

The die cut paper is all from Donna Salazar Designs, all colors are Copic markers.

For Spooky Silhouettes, I used Glimmer Mist for the background on the canvas, and a fun technique for the die cuts:

Using Spellbinders Edgeabilities die templates

I had a question from a reader about the Spellbinders™ S4-044 Rose Blossoms die template. Spellbinders  Edgeabilities® s are so versatile, they just look a little intimidating, so hopefully I can show how fun  and useful these really are.

This is the die she specifically asked about:

Here are a few ways to use this die template:

First, die cut it.  Doesn’t look like much, right?

Next, emboss it:

Now you see some definition!  Flip it over and use the die as a stencil.  I used my Copic Markers and ABS to airbrush the colors, but you can use chalk, ink, colored pencils, paint…whatever you like to use.

Next take the paper out of the die template.

You have the die template , the main piece, and the 2 smaller roses to embellish and layer on the finished product.  Just toss the negative piece.

To make a card with this die,  I used 8.5 x 5.5″ piece, folded.  I used regular tape to hold the die template in place once I centered it onto the card front, with the cut edges facing the card front.

To cut this in my Wizard, I  need the cut edges to cut into the white mat, but not into the back side of the card.  To do this, I place the die (taped to the card front) on the Magnetic Mat and fold the back of the card under the magnetic mat, then place the top mat on the sandwich and cut in the Wizard.

This gives me the image with an aperture (opening) around it.  The opening can be backed with vellum, other cardstock, acetate, or left open.  I could have positioned the die tempate close to the edge to cut a decorative edge to the card, like this:

Just make sure the main image is covered by the paper.  Cut/emboss in die cut machine.

Use scissors to trim off excess on sides if needed.

Fold the paper to make a decorative topper, or fold in half to make an edge embellishment, like this:

(note this is the same paper, I folded it twice, so ignore the crease by my thumb)

So many possibilities!   Check out these Spellbinders Blog to see more examples of Edgeabilities:
