Whiff of Joy Blog Hop

Hello! Today I have the privilege of blog hopping with Whiff of Joy!

Blog Hop header

These stamps, designed by my friend Stephanie Schütze, are beautiful! They are artfully themed, and come in deeply etched red rubber, with cling backing. This is the set I received:

And this is the card I made:

I stamped the stacks twice for each image, then colored the book covers with colors that reminded me of old leather-bound books. I used Thin 3D Foam Squares, and 3D Foam Squares (regular thickness) on every other stack, to give them dimension.

For the open book, I stamped twice, then fussy cut the top page, folded and curled the page, and adhered to the book with MyStik® Permanent Strips (because I can dispense them 1 at a time) and then added a 3D Foam Square under the page to give it dimension. Here’s a side view:

The stamp set I selected from Taylored Expressions “Wheely Great” brings back memories! Back in the stone ages, you know, high school, my dad bought a VW Bug convertible. It was 15 years old, stick shift, and the floor was rusted out. There was no heat, which didn’t quite work out so great with Chicago winter weather and cheerleading uniforms. But, it was the coolest car ever…when it worked. He spent weekends repairing it and swearing at it. I was the only one of my sisters that could drive the stick shift, so guess who had the most fun? Sure, they had fun in Mom’s “Family Truckster” station wagon, but everyone wanted a ride in Murphy (that’s what we named her, based on Murphy’s Law, everything that could go wrong on that car did go wrong)!

Beth Pingry Wheely Great CardSo I just had to have this set and smile when I think of all the shenanigans with the Murph.

I wanted to create a chalkboard effect, so I used kraft paper to make a frame, a colored pencil for the wood grain. Plain old black cardstock for the background, and a white colored pencil for the road, etc. All the flat items have been adhered with MyStik™ Permanent Fine Adhesive.

I stamped the car with Memento ink, colored with Copic markers and layered for dimension with 3D Foam Squares. I stamped the sentiment with Stazon Opaque Cotton White ink.

Here you can see the 3D Foam Squares I used to lift the car and the ‘chalkboard frame’ off the card base.

Now, here is my card today:

Beth Pingry Queen Card

If you saw my Celebrate post from yesterday, you’ll notice the similarities! That’s because I had to clean my scrapping area for Spunky’s graduation party, and I left out only a few items. Luckily I just love this combo of papers, and I was itching to use my new Unity Stamps. It’s hard to see straight on, but I added 3D Foam Squares to the back of the Queen and the sentiment, like this:

She stands off the card background a teensy bit, and the bling, well, she is the queen of the entire freakin’ universe,  you know! I’m using this card for a friend’s birthday!

Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to finish the blog hop by heading to the CardMaker Blog!
