Flourishes Birthday Card Tutorial

I promised the instructions on the card I made for the Flourishes Birthday Blog Hop yesterday. Thank you Flourishes for the invitation to be a part of your blog hop!

I would have added the instructions to that post, but a combination of computer problems, some not so great photos, dentist appointments and a rugby parent meeting cut my time short, oh and that thing called work, which involves the not so productive computer.

Lets go going!  I mentioned my supply list,  Worldwin Paper, Clearsnap ink and Bits of Bling, SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L™ 3D Foam Squares and MyStik™ and a bit of twine!  I used Spellbinders™  LF-168 Grand Large LabelsS4-324 Ribbon Banners and S5-028 Nested Pennants.

I started with a Shaped Card base, made by folding 12×12″ cardstock in  half, aligning the fold line just below the cut edge of Grand Large Labels #5 (#1 is the smallest in the set).  I cut the shaped card base.

Next I taped the Grand Large Labels #4 to the card base, nesting it inside of the #5 die template.  I embossed this in the Grand Calibur™, and that’s how I achieved the second embossed line around the edges.

I cut/embossed with the #3 die template with white and lighter purple paper for the front and side of the card.  On the light purple front I stamped with one of the border stamps.

On the white-inside I stamped with one of the sentiments and floral images.

For the banner on the front, I stamped the plaid images and cut/embossed with the ribbon piece from Nested Pennants.  For the Ribbon Banners, I curved the stamp to match the curve of the die cut.

I used 3D Foam Squares to mount the Ribbon Banner to the front of the card.  I also used them to attach the twine to the Pennant, and then to the card, so they had a dimensional look.  I added some bling and it’s done!

And the finished card again,

Thank you again for stopping by!  Next week I’m in the Spellbinders Bunny Hop,

 I’ll post that schedule next!

This fun set just screams celebration and offers 6 different pennants and flags all designed to coordinate perfectly with Spellbinders S5-028 Nested Pennants and S5-029 Lacey Nested Pennants. There are also 9 sentiments and 8 accents in the set that you can use to deck out your pennant shapes in fun and different ways!

I’ve been crazy busy, but I promise to post the instructions and step shots  and inside tomorrow.  I did an easy technique to get the double embossed frame around the card. So gather up your Worldwin Paper, Clearsnap ink and Bits of Bling, SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L™ 3D Foam Squares and MyStik™ and a bit of twine!  I used LF-168 Grand Large Labels and S4-324 Ribbon Banners too!

Deck the Halls!

Last year we inherited Christmas Ornaments from my FIL, as he was getting the house ready for sale.  I love ornaments, and I knew the box was full of treasures.  Add those to the ornaments I already had from my grandparents, and I had enough to fill another tree!  That justified, I ran off to Target to get one.

This tree is in the front hall, and as long as Cindy doesn’t brush by it too fast or hard, and I attach  the ornaments instead of just hanging them, everything will be safe.  I wanted a skinny and tall one, because there just isn’t a lot of space, but unlimited height.  But I didn’t want to spend a fortune, so I ended up with a skinny 8 footer.  I will post a finished photo, somehow I never got around to taking one last year…despite the fact that the tree was up until almost March!

So here is the page, all the deets are on Spellbinders Blog:

I used these supplies: Spellbinders Grand Calibur, S4-284 2010 Holiday Trees; LF-161 Grand Labels One; S7-018 Big Scalloped Border Grand; S4-168 Large Labels; S4-130 Classic Rectangles SM; SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L™, MyStik permanent adhesive; Graphic 45, Playtimes Past – Jack and Jill, Transatlantique – Around the World, Christmas Past – The Holly and the Ivy and Deck the Halls papers; WorldWin Papers, Treasures Kraft cardstock; Nikki Sivils Scrapbooker, Warm Cord Brads; Cosmo Cricket, Tiny Type stickers; Creative Impressions, Satin Ribbon; Clearsnap Colorbox, Black Pigment and Dark Moss Fluid Chalk Inks; Making Memories, glittered alpha stickers, tag, Ranger Distress Antique Linen ink.

I loved the holly wreath in this set, and wanted to hang it on my door:

I am thrilled to remove the project picture and replace it with this:

I created a 6-panel door using S4-142 Long Classic Rectangle LG #2 (the smallest is #1) to make four of the panels, and S4-128 Classic Squares SM #3 for the top pieces.  I inked the edges and embossed lines with Distress Antique Linen ink, and adhered the panels with SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L 3D Foam Squares, to give them more dimension. The door knob is a glitter brad from Creative Impressions, and it’s on the smallest die cut from S4- 283 2010 Heirloom Ornaments. All paper is from Worldwin.

The inside has “Merry Christmas” stamped on S5-025 Labels Seventeen, and layered onto S4-301 Labels Sixteen.

Taking a closer look at the wreath, you can see that it has three layers.  I stamped it three times and colored them with Copic atyou Spica pens, using Lipstick for the berries and Olive and Melon for the holly leaves.  I hand cut and layered with 3D Foam Squares.

Pictures just don’t capture the glittery delight of the pens, but belive me, its there!

Faux Stained Glass Window

I teased about another idea with the Flourishes stamp set, and here it is.  I don’t think of myself as a stamper so much as a paper crafter, so my brain goes beyond the stamp and  color it in phase.  I went in the ‘what kind of color would mimic stained glass’ and took it from there.  I posted the full instructions on the Spellbinders™ Blog

Start with ink and photo paper.

Add colors of ink, one at a time, starting light and going darker:

Create as many as you need:

Stamp the image:

Use SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L™’s Adhesive Sheets to apply adhesive to the colored panels, this will turn them into stickers so we don’t have to worry about tiny scraps of paper and adhesive.

Stamp image again onto white cardstock, and heat emboss:

With scissors, start to hand cut the individual images from the colored papers.  Cut inside the lines, adhere so the embossed lines are visible.

Keep cutting!  I cut the blue pieces from several images to vary the color, to closer resemble stained glass.  Cut then put in place, otherwise its a very difficult puzzle to put together.  Trust me!

Next, make the card.  I cut an opening in the card front with Labels Eleven #5, the fifth largest die tempate.

Then I made a frame to go on the front and a mat for the image, all in the same pass through the Wizard. (Gotta love those Nestabilities®!)

Add a sentiment in a Double Ended Tag:

And another Labels Eleven as a blue mat for the inside:

Sure the blue parts were tedious, and to make this easier I suggest using patterned paper and/or a less intricate stamp.

Here is my supply list: Spellbinders Wizard, S4-246 Labels Eleven; S3-149 Double Ended Tags; Flourishes, Beauty Within Stamps; Clearsnap, ColorBox Black, Blue Queue, Green Queue Pigment Inks, Pink Queue Fluid Chalk Inks; Sparkle N Sprinkle, Ebony Spark Embossing Powder; SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVES BY 3L, Adhesives Sheets, E-Z Runner; Creative Impressions, Blue Brads; Worldwin, Black, Light Belguim Blue Cardstock, Aspire Silver Ore Linen Cover; Photo paper

Have a great day!
